ACOBAN, the Mexican Association of Label Converters and Narrow Web, has announced a change within its Board of Directors. José Alfonso Rubio, owner of Monterrey-based Materiales y Etiquetas Millennium, has fulfilled his two year term as ACOBAN president, and named Gerardo González, director of the label printing company Etiprint, S.A. de C.V. as the association’s new president.
Under Rubio’s leadership, ACOBAN accomplished quite a bit – within Mexico’s label industry as well as abroad. There are now 10 converter and 10 supplier members in the young organization. Over the last two years, 105 scholarships were handed out to students from ACOBAN’s Graphic Arts program.
ACOBAN also participated various major events over the past two years, including Expográfica Guadalajara 2013, the TLMI Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX, USA in October 2013, Mexigrafika 2014 and Industrial Print Expo 2015, in Monterrey, México.
Significantly, in 2014, ACOBAN participated in its first Labelexpo, not only as an “Associate Partner,” but also occupied a booth to promote the association. At Labelexpo, ACOBAN launched its ACOBAN app made for the iOS platform, which targets flexographic industry professionals in México.
During the month of January 2015, ACOBAN offered a two-day seminar called Seminario de Procesos de Impresión en Flexografía. “The event went above and beyond our expectations,” said ACOBAN’s Monica Gabriela Martinez Garza. “We hosted 85 converters (owners or directors), technicians and managers. With the help of six suppliers from the industry, and finishing the seminar with a motivational conference, the event was a tremendous success for both our members as well as for the assistants.”
In addition to the change at president, the association also named Jorge Martinez, president of Grupo Etimex, S.A. de C.V. as vice president of ACOBAN.
