Flexo Label Advantage Group LLC (FLAG) recently held its fifth Annual Members Meeting, November 11-12 in Raleigh, NC, USA. North Carolina.
Celebrating five years, under the mottos "Stronger as One," and "Our Group is the Advantage," FLAG is a buying group for label converters. Utilizing the collective buying power of the group, FLAG secures volume purchasing agreements on products converters use everyday, from some of the industry's premier suppliers. FLAG members enjoy bottom-line savings on substrates, tooling, ink and shipping among other product categories. The association also offers members catastrophic recovery plans, technical and business resources, as well as sales tools and networking opportunities.
The Annual Members Meeting is one of FLAG's networking and education opportunities. John McKay, president and founder of FLAG, explains, “Our Annual Members Meetings provide the perfect opportunity for our label converter members to network with their peers as well as our world class vendor partners," he says. "The ability to share and learn from others dealing with the same issues as you is priceless.”
At each Members Meeting, one FLAG member opens its facility doors for a tour by all attendees. This year, attendees were impressed by host FLAG Member 3C Packaging, a full service designer and manufacturer of printed packaging components, specializing in custom folding cartons, printed literature, labels, flexible packaging and unit dose packaging. The company is based in Clayton, NC, just outside of Raleigh.
“It’s not everyday that independent label converters get the opportunity to visit other shops and maybe pick up an idea or two that could help their own process,” says McKay.
During the meeting, FLAG was pleased to have Micheal Lane, an author and business development expert, as a guest speaker. Lane is the former CEO of Lofton Label, and recently completed a turnaround for the Minnesota-based label manufacturer. “It was an extraordinary opportunity for our members and vendors to hear from such an experienced professional. Mike talked about branding, growing sales and managing a label business in todays environment. Feedback from our attendees was all positive to the point where they want him back next year," adds McKay.
At the Annual Dinner & Awards Event, FLAG presented Bob Ambrose of UPM Raflatac with the special individual Brad Brown Strategic Partner of the Year award. FLAG was also honored Actega WIT with its Vendor of the Year Award, which recognizes the FLAG Vendor that goes above and beyond to help FLAG and its members.
According to one FLAG Member from Ohio: “FLAG meetings always provide a great opportunity to challenge myself and benchmark our business practices that I can't do in any other organization. Even though most companies are diversified, we always find a gold nugget each year we can use right away.”
