Slight growth predicted
for graphics industry
Printing Industries of America
(PIA) forecasts economic growth of
below 2 percent for sales in the US
graphic arts industry for the rest of
2001. In 2002, it predicts that the US
economy will grow 3 percent, and that
the economies of Canada and Mexico
will beat that rate with growth of 3.2
percent and 4.7 percent, respectively.
“With economic growth at its lowest
point in eight years, it might seem difficult
to exude optimism about the
next 12 to 18 months,” says Ron Davis,
PIA’s chief economist. “However, there
are solid arguments that the 2002
North American economy will rebound
from the current slump.”
Davis’ remarks are made in a report
titled “Outlook for the Economy and
Print Markets: What Lies Ahead for
the Remainder of 2001 and 2002?”
