Mitsubishi SC plant
to focus on shrink films
Mitsubishi Polyester Film has announced plans to convert one of its PET film lines at its Greer, SC, facility to produce of PET shrink films. The company plans to complete the conversion by the fourth quarter.
The Greer plant will be able to produce 5,000 tons of PET shrink film a year, the company expects.
“Traditional markets for biaxially oriented PET films have grown increasingly competitive,” says Bill Radlein, vice president of sales. “Therefore, we have sought opportunities to expand our product line to provide value-added products to our customers in the packaging and industrial markets.”
The shrink film market has grown in the past few years by as much as 15 percent a year, says Radlein.
He adds, however, that the lack of production capacity of shrink films worldwide has restricted the growth of the market.
