Web press agreement
unites two heavyweights
The decision by Montreal-based RDP Marathon Inc. to market and support Drent Goebel web presses in the US and Canada underscores the fierce competition in the narrow and mid-web offset market. Both companies supply their UV-equipped presses to a wide mix of high-volume printers and converters, including producers of labels and flexible packaging.
As a privately-owned Dutch company, Drent acquired the financially troubled Goebel company early in 2001 and adopted its present name. The German company makes the shaftless Novaprint series, while Drent’s production centers on the Vision multi-product shaftless press, now augmented with the new VSOP (Variable Sleeve Offset Printing) variant. RDP Marathon will cooperate with Drent Goebel America to sell these ranges, while Drent Goebel will market RDP’s larger 30 to 38 inch presses, including the blanket-to-blanket (perfector) series in Europe.
“This is a perfect match for both our companies as our products complement each other. With this broader product mix we will be able to provide customers, on both sides of the Atlantic, with a total print solution,” says Eric Short, president and CEO, RDP Marathon.
“Shaftless driven hybrid presses and sleeve offset technology (VSOP) will revolutionize the graphic industry. RDP Marathon has always been an advocate of innovation and reliability and are the perfect partner to market and support this technology in America,” says Etienne d’Hauwe, owner/director of Drent Goebel.
