Ferd. Ruesch AG and E.I. DuPont, DuNemours & Co., DuPont Imaging Technologies, were recently honored as the first winners of the TLMI Environmental Leadership Award from the Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute, Inc. (TLMI). The award was presented at the association’s recent annual meeting in Boca Raton, FL.
The TLMI Environmental Leadership Award recognizes the leadership efforts of TLMI member companies that have demonstrated their commitment to good environmental practices in a variety of areas, including reducing their solid waste, expanding a recycling project, recovery of waste or energy, implementing a new “clean” technology or process, and implementing an education program.
Ferd. Ruesch AG, the parent com pany of Gallus, was honored with the TLMI Environmental Leadership Award for Process Improvement. The company has established a yearly cycle of planning, implementation, checking and correcting various aspects of its environmental performance. This includes energy usage, waste management/recycling, solvent use and emissions, and equipment use and development.
Since 1996, the company has realized substantial reductions in energy consumption, waste and emissions. Solvent emissions, for example, have been reduced from 83.3 kg of solvent per machine in 1996 to just 17.2 kg per machine in 2002.
