Inspec Tech wins
state business award
2004 Alabama Small Manufacturer of the Year is Inspec Tech, a label and tag converter based in Valley Head. The company won the award, one of three, in the category for companies with fewer than 100 employees.
Inspec Tech, founded by Mark Freeman, is family-owned and operated. It began as a bar coding business in Freeman’s residence, and today has 13 employees and an annual growth rate of 22 percent.
The company now converts labels and tags for a wide range of industries. Products include laundry tags, medical wristbands, shipping labels, hangtags, extreme exposure labels that can withstand severe environmental conditions, and radio frequency identification products.
In addition to producing blank and custom labels and tags, Inspec Tech offers printers, scanners, software and media to provide its customers with customized and complete labeling solutions.
Husband, wife, sons, daughter, and even grandmother helped build this business that moved from the basement to a converted golf cart garage before settling in a custom-built production facility in 2001.
The Alabama Manufacturer of the Year Awards program is an annual recognition of Alabama manufacturing enterprises that exhibit excellence in leadership, performance, profitability and work force relations.
Sponsors of the awards are the Alabama Technology Network and the Business Council of Alabama. They were presented in May at the Capital City Club in Montgomery.
