DISC, a producer of specialty packaging products for more than 40 years, has announced the installation of a new HP Indigo WS6600 Digital Press. This digital print technology is designed to produce high-quality labels, cartons and other packaging applications on a variety of substrates. According to the company, this new press will deliver high production value and versatility to clients in such markets as healthcare, beauty, and entertainment media industries.
“Our investment in this outstanding digital technology will expand our ability to serve our clients with a variety of products,” says Margaret Krumholz, president of DISC. “Its unique configuration increases our range of offerings, enabling us to expand our label business and deliver shrink sleeves and flexible packaging, as well as folding cartons, on the same press.”
DISC’s new 13" wide digital press prints seven colors and incorporates HP Indigo’s SmartStream, a fully integrated end-to-end workflow for labels and packaging. According to the company, Its automated systems for calibration assure consistent quality throughout the print run. The digital format eliminates the cost of plates and minimizes makeready time. The press is paired with an Omega Digicon Series 2 finishing and converting press from AB Graphic International, which applies cold foil, coatings or film lamination and has diecutting, sheeting and slitter-rewinding module units.
“The unique capabilities of the HP Indigo digital system give us a competitive edge,” says Stephen Frey, DISC senior vice president, sales. “Because we have the flexibility to print on paper, board or synthetic film in a range of calipers (from 0.5 to 18 point), we further our objective of being a full service packaging producer. Whether clients need short run labels, sequentially numbered labels, flexible packaging, or even cartons, they will reap the benefits of this agile, high-quality press.”
