Bunting’s Mike Wilks (L) and Markus Marfurt of Electro Optic
Electro Optic US and Bunting Magnetics Co. have formed a partnership to benefit not only both companies but the entire narrow web printing and converting industry. Henceforth, Bunting magnetic diecutting cylinders will be available exclusively in North America through the Electro Optic US sales organization. This collaboration brings together magnetic cylinders known for long life, reliability, and proven design with flexible dies from a quality leader in the industry. The distribution agreement was announced early in January and takes effect immediately.
Discussing the partnership, Electro Optic US President Markus Marfurt says: “As flexographic printers confront the challenges of ever-thinner liners and face material, as well as higher press speeds, the technological interface between flexible dies and magnetic cylinders becomes critical.
Flexible dies, and the magnetic cylinder on which they ride, must fit together as one to produce the perfect die strike. As Electro Optic engineers sought to improve the die-cylinder interface, it became apparent that the relationship of die and cylinder tolerances greatly influence success in the pressroom. As a result, Electro Optic sought to partner with Bunting Magnetics, the most experienced manufacturer of magnetic cylinders. In Bunting, Electro Optic found the quality leader in magnetic cylinders, a company that has produced reliable, trouble-free cylinders for more than 30 years.”
For the industry, the Electro Optic US-Bunting collaboration produces a stable flexible die solution, produced by two companies each with specialized manufacturing expertise. “Now, Electro Optic US flexible die engineers can respond to the ever-tighter tolerances of liner material manufacturers by working with the cylinder producer as materials change. This will enable narrow web printers and converters to more confidently work with the new thinner liner materials and difficult substrates being seen. Together, Electro Optic US and Bunting Magnetics are enabling the industry to achieve more predictable and reliable diecutting results,” Marfurt says.
Bunting Magnetics Printing Product Manager Michael Wilks also comments: “As the industry-wide quality leader in magnetic cylinders, the proven Bunting three-piece cylinder designs produce diecutting accuracy that remains unchanged through time. Our partnership with Electro Optic US ensures that together we can confidently embrace the technological changes facing label printers. The combination of these two high tolerance products ensures that label producers and converters can confidently and consistently handle the sophisticated materials used now and in the future. We look forward to a long and productive relationship, and one that benefits not only our companies but the entire industry.”
