Mark Andy and its team of co-suppliers won the Technical Innovation Award at the recent EFIA (European Flexographic Industry Association) event in the UK.
The team effort of producing a swatch booklet was the culmination of a new approach to promoting what the cold foil technique could achieve with top quality materials and processes.
Mark Andy’s award winning teammates included the initiators of the project, API Foils and Innovia Films, as well as Cheshire Anilox Technology, Reprobrand, GMG Color, Color-Logic and JFM Plates.
“It was a really creative initiative to promote the new capabilities of cold foil as a decorative technique, and Mark Andy was very proud to have been chosen as the press manufacturer involved,” says Phil Baldwin, Europe aftermarket director, Mark Andy.
Mark Andy also recently announced leading Serbian print house, Birografika MB, has installed one of Mark Andy’s Performance Series P3 presses at its headquarters in Subotica. The P3 has a 250mm web width and is fitted with seven UV flexo print stations. Installed at the end of January, it is the first Mark Andy Performance Series press in Serbia. According to company officials, the Mark Andy was chosen for its combination of short run capabilities, easy and quick make-ready, short web path for low wastage, and its ability to hold tight register at high speed.
Birografika was set up in 2006 to fill a gap left by the demise of a well-established printing business that dated back to the 1920s. The aim was to build on the quality reputation and continue with the business long-term, utilizing existing skills and personnel. Today, the company has a thriving flexo division and a growing portfolio of customers in Serbia and surrounding countries. Its location in the north, close to the borders with Hungary, Romania and Croatia, offers good access to markets where demand for quality labels continues to rise, and its ISO 9001:2008 and HACCP standards accreditation confirm its capability to deliver.
The new Mark Andy Performance Press will bring a new level of competitiveness to the company and broaden its product offering to a portfolio of customers that includes Carlsberg and Michelin.
The investment process was facilitated by Mark Andy’s agent, Professional Printing Solutions, who also coordinated the first Performance Series press sale into Croatia last year. “As the Mark Andy distributor for the Adriatic region, we are delighted that after positive sales of the legacy Mark Andy 2200 platform, markets in the region are accepting the Performance Series flexo print platform. We look forward to further educating the market on the benefits of Mark Andy equipment and bringing more Performance Series presses into our region,” says Andrej Petkovic, general manager for PPS.
