Sihl has introduced a new portfolio of polyethylene (PE) label films featuring aqueous (AQ) inkjet coatings, expanding print-on-demand options for label converters while supporting mono-material packaging strategies aligned with the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Designed for demanding labeling applications, the new PE films offer high conformability, allowing labels to conform to curved and squeezable containers without creasing. Their low rigidity also makes them well suited for small-diameter containers, where they provide greater flexibility than conventional BOPP or PET label materials.

The portfolio includes four AQ inkjet coating options tailored to different end-use requirements:

  • IHG1 Gloss for high-quality, glossy graphics;
  • IG1 Satin for a satin-finish appearance;
  • ZM1 Matt BS5609, offering water and chemical resistance for demanding outdoor applications; and
  • IM1 Matt Universal, designed as a versatile solution for a wide range of indoor labeling applications.

According to Sihl, the new products bring aqueous inkjet technology to PE film labels for the first time, enabling print-on-demand production while maintaining compatibility with PE containers. The company says the combination supports mono-material packaging designs that can help brand owners meet evolving sustainability and recyclability requirements under PPWR.

Sihl’s new PE film portfolio is aimed at manufacturers and converters seeking greater flexibility in short-run and variable-data label production without sacrificing performance on challenging package shapes.
