Vitsab International AB is promoting its Freshtag time-temperature indicator as a solution for monitoring temperature-sensitive food products during storage and transportation, with caviar serving as one of the latest applications for the technology.

The color-changing smart label provides a visual indication of cumulative time and temperature exposure throughout the cold chain. Using the company’s “Stoplight Technology,” the label remains green under acceptable conditions before changing to yellow and red if a product has experienced temperature abuse based on preconfigured product parameters.

According to Vitsab, the labels are FDA accepted as a Critical Control Point (CCP) for temperature monitoring within HACCP plans and can be integrated into existing food safety and quality management systems without additional scanning equipment or readers.

The company says the labels help food producers, distributors, retailers, and foodservice operators verify product integrity throughout processing, transportation, and delivery while reducing spoilage, replacement shipments, and product waste. Although highlighted for caviar, the technology is designed for a wide range of temperature-sensitive foods requiring cold chain monitoring.
