In order to promote label growth in the US market, 30-year print industry veteran Joe Sanchez has established Digital Press Technologies, LLC. The new company will work with Weigang and help deliver an assortment of digital and hybrid label press configurations to converters in this region.

Weigang, a press manufacturer that stood out at Labelexpo Europe 2025, has built a global network of press and machinery installations, and its products can be found in more than 100 countries around the world. Digital Press Technologies will focus on finding the right solution for each converter’s book of business.

“I’ve learned a lot from the label converters I’ve worked with over my career,” says Sanchez. “One thing I’ve learned is that no two converters are alike. Every company has different production goals, different challenges, and a different vision for where they want to take their business. That’s why I’ve never believed there’s one press that’s right for everyone. I wanted to build the kind of company I’d want to do business with myself. A company built on trust, integrity, accountability, and long-term relationships. For label converters here in the United States, I think this partnership brings together the best of both worlds. They have access to innovative technology backed by local support from someone who understands their business and is committed to helping them succeed.

Digital Press Technologies will fully service the entire press: installations, training, ongoing support, preventive maintenance, and all parts and consumables. This is a big part of the company’s value proposition.

“My customers are busy running their businesses. It’s my job to do the research, understand the technology, ask the hard questions, and bring them the best solutions available,” adds Sanchez. “Digital Press Technologies isn’t about selling digital presses. It’s about helping label converters make informed decisions, giving them confidence in those decisions, and being there long after the installation is complete supporting them in achieving their goals.”

Selecting Weigang

Sanchez completed his due diligence on a global scale, exploring a wide variety of press manufacturers to bring to the US market. Upon visiting Weigang’s headquarters in Wenzhou City, Sanchez got a close look at the technology in action.

“Over the years, I’ve looked at equipment from manufacturers all over the world,” explains Sanchez. “I’ve always believed that if I’m going to ask a customer to trust me with one of the biggest investments they’ll make, I need to have complete confidence in the company behind the equipment. That’s what really impressed me about Weigang. “The more time I spent with their team, the more I realized we looked at the business the same way and share a lot of the core values.”

Weigang’s tailor-made approach to press design stood out to Sanchez, as well. Digital Press Technologies’ philosophy has aligned with Weigang, with the goal of helping converters grow their business and become more profitable.

“I also liked the fact that Weigang understands every converter is different,” comments Sanchez. “They aren’t trying to build one press that fits everyone. They build equipment that can be configured around the customer’s business, their applications, and where they want to take their company in the future.

“My job is to be the bridge between the manufacturer and the converter, to make sure my customers’ voices are heard, to advocate for them, and to bring them the newest technology that helps them become more competitive,” Sanchez continues. “I chose Weigang because I believe in the people, I believe in the technology, and I believe in the direction they’re headed. When I recommend a press to one of my customers, I want them to know I have complete confidence in the manufacturer standing behind it. That’s exactly how I feel about Weigang.”

Focusing on digital

For Digital Press Technologies, a digital label press must accomplish three key goals: produce high quality labels, deliver excellent reliability, and outstanding value.

“I’ve always believed a customer should receive a complete, production-ready solution,” says Sanchez. “The options should be unique to their business, things like extended gamut, flexo stations, converting, embellishment, and finishing. Those are the areas where we customize a press because every converter’s needs are different. The core press should already have everything needed to produce outstanding labels from day one consistently without having to jump through hoops to do it.

“At Digital Press Technologies, we’re going to continue looking for technologies that bring real value to label converters,” he adds. “Not because they’re new, but because they genuinely help our customers become more productive, more competitive, and more profitable.

Digital Press Technologies is representing a current product line that includes the WG S230 for converters entering digital production, the WG S350 for higher production environments, and the new ZJR S350 Ultra hybrid inkjet label press. Weigang manufactures more than 60% of their press technology in-house. This way, the company is not relying on a long list of outside suppliers, giving better control over quality, integration, and consistency while eliminating unnecessary costs. This was a key point for Digital Press Technologies.

“I’m especially excited about the ZJR S350 Ultra because I think it’s where the industry is headed,” remarks Sanchez. “For years, converters have been asking for better print quality without giving up production speed. Now we’re talking about true native 1200 dpi resolution at speeds up to 262 fpm. That’s a significant step forward because converters shouldn’t have to choose between quality and productivity anymore. I’ve always said, ‘Affordable doesn’t mean cheap.’ To me, it means delivering the best value possible. It means investing in engineering, building equipment the right way, and giving customers a press that’s going to perform for years to come.

“I’ve never been more excited about the label industry than I am today,” Sanchez continues. “In over 30 years, I’ve watched this industry evolve from simple one- and two-color labels, to where we are today with digital printing, hybrid technology, automation, and workflows we couldn’t have imagined years ago. It’s exciting because I really believe we’re just getting started.”
