G-3 Enterprises, of Modesto, CA, USA, is the Best of Show winner in the 2006 Awards Competition sponsored by the Tag & Label Manufacturers Institute (TLMI). The winning entry, a label for Bridlewood Blue Road Syrah, also won a First Place award among North American competitors in the Wine & Spirits, Flexography/Letterpress, Line & Screen/Tone, Prime category.
Smyth Companies, Minneapolis, MN, USA, won the Innovator award for its Coors Cold Wrap Label in the Roll to Roll, Line, Prime category. The company also received second place recognition for that entry.
This year’s competition — the results of which were announced Tuesday night at TLMI’s annual meeting in Orlando, FL, USA — drew 278 entries from 51 converters, both North American and international. First place awards were presented for 36 North American labels and tags, and for 12 international labels. Twenty-four second place awards were presented for North American winners, along with four for international converters. Twelve honorable mentions were awarded, 10 of them to North American converters.
Several companies won multiple awards, including Multi-Color Corporation (9), Collotype Labels (8), Tapp Technologies (7), and G-3 Enterprises and Dow Industries (5 each).
The judging committee, chaired by Steve Lee of RotoMetrics, included Mike Buystedt of XSYS Print Solutions; J. Page Crouch, retired chairman of the graphics department at Clemson University; Patrick Hague of Water Ink Technologies; Ray Mackura of Avery Dennison Fasson Roll; Peter Mulheran of Siegwerk Ink Packaging; Dilip Shah of Nilpeter USA; Robert Smithson of Trinity Graphic USA; Paul Teachout of Aquaflex; Terry Trexler of Gallus; and Roy Webb of Mark Andy.
