Neil McDonough, president and CEO of FLEXcon, has been named the “Big Business Leader of Year” by the Worcester Business Journal, a publication that heralds the activities and accomplishments of the North Central Massachusetts business community.
“We believe FLEXcon is a great example of what makes this region a vibrant place to live and work,” Editor Christina Davis wrote in a letter notifying the company that McDonough had been selected for the award. Along with other 2009 award winners, he was formally recognized at an event on Wednesday, February 18, at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester, MA.
McDonough, who also received the 2008 R. Stanton Avery Lifetime Achievement Award in September 2008 at Labelexpo in Chicago, was featured in the Jan. 19, 2009, edition of the Worcester Business Journal along with several other honorees.
He told the Worcester Business Journal that he still draws on the things he learned and the connections he made as a teenager working for his dad, Myles McDonough, who found FLEXcon more than 50 years ago.
Each year, the Worcester Business Journal seeks to highlight leaders within the business community to celebrate the positive impact that leadership and entrepreneurship has in Central Massachusetts.
Davis says the process involves gathering nominations internally and from the community. The editorial team and publisher then discuss the merits of the nominees and seek additional input from the community. She says, “We look for individual leaders in two main categories: Leaders who have made particular strides within a given year and leaders who have made long-term contributions over time. We also take into consideration a nominee’s business achievements and commitment to the Central Massachusetts community.”
