Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has certified Cord-Tag 1, the cable marking offered by Schreiner Group. The product was originally developed for a customer of the Schreiner PrinTrust business unit.
Cord-Tag 1 and Cord-Tag 1 OL have been designed for applications according to the standards ANSI/UL817 "Cord Sets and Power-Supply Cords,” ANSI/UL 859 "Household Electric Personal Grooming Appliances" and ANSI/UL1727 "Commercial Electric Personal Grooming Appliances.” This makes the cord tag suitable for the power cables of virtually all household appliances. Both products have been approved for printing by flexographic, offset, inkjet and thermal transfer procedures. The Cord-Tag 1 OL version can be enhanced with security features or by coatings for protection against external environmental influences.
"After intensive research and many product qualification tests, we are very happy to be the first and – for the time being – only European company with the capability and the approval necessary to produce UL-certified cord tags of this classification," says Sebastian Baur of Schreiner Group's R&D team.
Within the framework of certification, UL tested several characteristics including wear resistance and durability of the label on various power cable types. Security technologies such as holograms, the BitSecure copy detection pattern, LaserSecure pigments or the tracing system KeySecure can be integrated, as well.
