Smartrac has announced its Green Tag Program to the public. In addition to its existing commitment to minimize any possible ecological impact of its manufacturing processes, the RFID and IoT company has taken on an obligation to manufacture RFID products that live up to a true sustainability promise even under strict Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) scrutiny.
With RFID inlays and tags being deployed in ever-growing numbers in ever broader areas of application, eco-friendly manufacturing methods and choices of materials become more and more important. This also applies from a customer perspective, further prompting transponder manufacturers to introduce sustainable products, and Smartrac is already responding.
Smartrac will only award its products a Green Tag label if they verifiably meet the following criteria:
To be able to rapidly establish a comprehensive portfolio of demanding Green Tag RAIN RFID and NFC products at competitive prices, Smartrac is currently implementing various new manufacturing technologies in close cooperation with key technology partners.
“It is and always has been our mission to be the RFID innovation leader. I am convinced that our Green Tag Program will fairly and squarely lead the RFID industry in terms of environmental sustainability. We are doing this because it is important for all of us and our planet, as well as being in accordance with the wishes of our global customer base, who will soon be able to receive real, sustainable Green Tag products,” says Christian Uhl, CEO at Smartrac.
Smartrac is committed to providing a production concept that guarantees economical manufacturing with minimal ecological impact. With this aim in view, ISO 14001 certification has been obtained by the company’s facilities in Fletcher, USA; Guangzhou, China; Kulim, Malaysia; and Reichshof-Wehnrath, Germany. The ISO 14000 family provides practical tools for companies and organizations seeking to identify and control their environmental impact.
Smartrac offers products in accordance with the RoHS Directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substance use in electrical and electronic equipment) adopted by the European Parliament and Council. In addition, Smartrac products are halogen-free and meet these requirements according to IEC 61249-2-21 specifications.
