After installing a Prati Saturn slitter/rewinder equipped with 100% inspection roll-map editing in 2017, Coast Label Company has again returned to Prati. The California-based converter's familiarity with Prati's technology and capabilities helped facilitate the deal.
New production demands required Coast Label to up its capacity and capability for high volume production of small finished rolls. “Our sales team worked hard during the pandemic, and their efforts won new pieces of business that have created significant additional demand for small rolls," explains Craig Moreland, owner and president, Coast Label. "And we need to rewind several thousand additional rolls daily."
Totally flexible with glueless technology, automatic core feeding from a vibrator bowl, plus automatic core loading and automatic roll closure features, the equipment of choice was the Prati StarPlus auto turret rewinder as a standalone machine.
“Not having to deal with the warm-up time or residue associated with hot-melt glue for core attachment and roll closure means more up-time and it meets our customers’ high expectations for quality – and this creates a double advantage for us," says Moreland. “The machine cuts the web in the gap between labels perfectly every time, even when we’re running seven streams wide. The result is that every label we finish on the StarPlus is usable by the customer, which we found not to be the case for many other machines. Further, all signs in the labor market point to investing in automation to leverage our people for maximum productivity."
Coast Label Company specializes in high-end medical device, serialized and industrial labels, and the converter is known for its innovative approach to solving the various problems of its customers. Moreland has been at the helm of Coast Label for 31 years, helping build the company's stature in the industry.
