Herma has announced it has joined RecyClass, the European initiative driving plastic circularity. The cross-industry RecyClass initiative drives the recyclability of plastic packaging and promotes a harmonized approach toward recycled plastic calculation and traceability in Europe.
In addition to Herma, the 100-plus RecyClass members include global players such as Aldi, BASF, Bayer, Ferrero, Nestlé, L’Oreal and Pepsico.
The circular economy of plastics is of key importance for European economies and businesses to achieve their sustainability goals, and Herma joins as a Platinum Member. "As a cross-industry initiative, RecyClass brings together players from the entire plastics value chain to optimise the recyclability of plastic packaging and the uptake of coatings and special coatings. To this end, RecyClass not only offers robust certifications, but is also working on the development recycled plastics,” explains Dr. Stefan Kissling, head of adhesive coatings and specialty coatings.
RecyClass not only offers robust certifications but is also working on the development of scientific testing methods for innovative materials. The testing results are included in the RecyClass Design for Recycling Guidelines and the free RecyClass Online Tool. The latter provides manufacturers and users of plastic packaging with a quick assessment of the recyclability of their packaging and guidelines on how to improve it.
"RecyClass conveys knowledge and creates both transparency and trust, thereby providing reliable orientation for all players. We are very proud to be an active member of the RecyClass community," adds Kissling. "We are very interested in using the expertise of the RecyClass community to further develop our product portfolio and to use it to advise our customers. After all, our aspiration is to be truly sustainable. Finding ways to make materials even more resource-friendly and recyclable is essential to reach this goal."
“RecyClass is also pleased to have on board another member with profound application knowledge, both about the use of recyclable plastic films and film labels,” states Paolo Glerean, chairman of RecyClass. “Herma is a leading European player in the field of self-adhesive materials, and we are extremely proud to see them engaged in the journey toward circular plastics."
