BASF breakthrough
in digital letterpress plates
Rotary letterpress still maintains a strong hold in many European label houses, which explains why BASF Printing Systems decided to manufacture a digitally-imaged letterpress plate, which is now ready for commercial production.
As with digital flexo plates, the process involves the transfer of image information directly onto the plate’s surface, so eliminating the need for a film negative. The laser-imaged Nyloprint D plates also incorporate a black mask layer and are available on polyester and steel bases for various printing applications. They can be imaged using existing flexo laser platesetters.
