Dale Bunnell, the retired vice president of business development for Mark Andy Inc., has been awarded the prestigious R. Stanton Avery Lifetime Achievement Award. The award will be presented September 13 at Labelexpo Americas in Chicago.
At a gala banquet on the opening night of Labelexpo, two companies in the narrow web industry will be honored with top achievement awards. Judges have made their decisions for the Label Industry Award for Continuous Innovation and the Label Industry Award for New Innovation, and the winners will be announced at the Monday night event.
The three finalists for the New Innovation award are AVT (Advanced Vision Technology), GiDue, and HP Indigo. The finalists for the Continuous Innovation award are Avery Dennison, Esko Graphics, and Nilpeter. One from each of those groups will receive the award.
During his 25 years at Mark Andy, Dale Bunnell was instrumental in seeing the company’s worldwide revenue grow from $5 million to an estimated $80 million annually. He participated in industry associations and was a regular speaker at industry conferences around the world and in key label industry activities. He spent time as a board member of TLMI, was an active member of the Flexographic Technical Association, and was a founding member and past chairman of the World Label Association.
The R. Stanton Avery Lifetime Achievement Award, named for the developer of pressure sensitive label technology, has been granted to only a few industry luminaries. This marks the first time in a decade that the award has been presented.
“The enthusiastic consensus of the panel was that Dale Bunnell was central to the most significant events in the narrow web label industry for the last 25 years,” says Mike Fairley of Tarsus Group, and chairman of the judging panel. “He has been a leader, an innovator, and an ambassador for the industry globally, and he is ably supported by his wife, Shirlene.”
The other judges were Jack Kenny, editor of Label & Narrow Web; Wolfgang Klos-Geiger, editor of NarroWebTech; Andy Thomas, editor of Labels & Labeling;
