WS Packaging Group, Inc. has acquired Business Graphics Printing Inc., which specializes in offset printing and production of instructional booklets and inserts. Business Graphics Printing is an offset printer of product literature booklets, which are a critical component in end-use applications that have strict regulatory requirements for product information, such as in the pharmaceutical industry. It also produces technical literature for major appliance and outdoor equipment markets. The company was founded in 2003 and is based in Knoxville, TN, USA.
“Under the leadership of Charles Gaut, president, and Randy England, vice president, Business Graphics Printing has established itself in a leadership position on the basis of its overall technical competence and capabilities in offset printing of booklets and multi-fold inserts,” says Rex Lane, chief executive officer of WS Packaging. “They have a partnership mentality that has allowed them to continue to grow and deliver expanded capabilities. Their innovative solutions create value and are further defined by an ongoing commitment to well-established Lean Manufacturing processes.”
Business Graphics Printing has 22 employees and operates in a new 13,500 square foot facility that opened in the fall of 2007.
“Our Lean Manufacturing process fully complements the overall services offering of WS Packaging Group,” adds Charles Gaut, president of Business Graphics Printing. “We’ve built Business Graphics Printing on meeting the specialized offset needs instructional booklets and pamphlets require. Adding these capabilities to the WS Packaging portfolio creates a broader opportunity to serve customers from a single-source platform.”
“Without a doubt, this is a very solid cultural fit between our two companies,” says Randy England, vice president, Business Graphics Printing. “Our collective resources will allow us to fully leverage a complete solutions approach to meeting the needs of our customers.”
The Lean Manufacturing processes and systems Business Graphics Printing has established fit well with the WS Packaging IMPACT Business System. The new approach applies innovative change through lean practices that positively impacts the company, its employees and its customers.
In other news, the Mason, OH, division of WS Packaging was recently awarded LIFE (Label Initiative for the Environment) certification from TLMI. The Project LIFE program was developed in order to assist TLMI members to find cost effective ways to reduce their companies’ environmental footprint. LIFE is a program designed specifically for the narrow web marketplace and addresses four key elements of the narrow web printing and converting industry: clean production, energy and greenhouse gases, product and environmentally preferable materials, and management practices.
The Mason, OH division of WS Packaging is the 34th company to achieve TLMI LIFE certification.
“More and more of our customers are being asked, or mandated, to evaluate the sustainability of their packaging,” says Terry Moede, corporate director of environment and safety for WS Packaging. “Having the third-party LIFE certification shows our customers that we operate in an environmentally sound manner and can provide documentation to meet their chain-of-custody requirements. We have implemented several processes and procedures to reduce waste and energy consumption throughout all our locations. We are currently pursuing LIFE certification at several other plants.”
