Domino has released a new video that highlights Orion Labels and its recent success with its CEI BossJet powered by Domino hybrid press. Orion Labels is a Wisconsin manufacturer of custom printed pressure sensitive labels, roll-fed film labels, non-pressure sensitive labels, tags and specialty items.
The press was installed at the beginning of 2019. In the video, which registers under four minutes in length, the Orion Labels team describes the benefits they are experiencing with this new press and the positive impact it is having on its business and its brand owner customers.
This hybrid press, which combines flexo and digital UV inkjet, has increased Orion Labels’ efficiency and improves profit margin on its existing short-run/high-SKU business while freeing up capacity on its flexo presses for longer runs with fewer SKUs. In addition, it has allowed Orion Labels to gain customers and projects for which they could not compete previously utilizing only traditional flexo.
Orion Labels was recently featured in L&NW as a company to watch. That feature can be found here.
Jonny August, director of operations at Orion Labels says, “What excites us about this machine is that it allows us to enter new markets, markets which we were unable to compete before. Now we can put it on the BossJet, run it, and it’s shipped out to our customers. And it’s been really exciting to see how our operators have taken to this machine. It’s made their jobs easier and they’re running them in a fraction of the time. It’s really exciting to see where technology is leading us.”
Neil Vandenberg, Partner at Orion Labels adds, “We’ve noticed a definite difference for our bottom line because of the Domino and because of the CEI equipment. We’re running things in a much more efficient way, we’re running things in a much more cost-conscious way. We’re realizing some real hard cost savings on the bottom line. That’s a huge thing for our customers.”
Eric August, partner at Orion Labels, explains, “We’ve got some spirits labels we are doing where we’ve got multi-color schemes going on, which means we don’t really want to print this with eight or nine or 10 plates. We like to get all of these colors off through the Domino. On top of that, the customer wanted a really rough textured coating over the top of these particular labels. We were able to come up with a really, really heavy textured surface that they just feel in love with. And that’s a product that’s out in the marketplace now.
“And this gives us an opportunity on some of those small specialty runs to do some really creative decorating for those folks, and certainly they have a true appreciation for what we can get off of this piece of equipment. And depending on the number of SKUs they have, we may save them hundreds of dollars, we may save them thousands of dollars.”
Dave Bradish, director of sales at Orion Labels, provides his view of the company's new hybrid press. “We have a customer that has 300 SKUs. What normally would have taken three days to run, now takes less than a shift. Just think of that. Think of something that would have taken three days and now takes less than 8 hours.
“We’re just getting started and the capability it gives us with the quality we’re looking for…we give the customer the best solution.”
